Description

I can feel what Faith feels as she stretches out into a gallop. Me. The wind in my face. The perfect horse. As hard as it will be, my body aches to ride.

A year has passed since 12-year-old Georgie Stone had a serious horseriding accident. She lost an eye, her horse and her country life. All she has left is a horse braid bracelet to remind her of her lost brumby, Magic.

Now that she's back at the cattle station, Georgie tries to overcome her fear of riding and prepare for the two-week cattle muster. But she's worried about the herd of wild brumbies led by the Ghost Horse, being hunted by a local horsewhipper, Goldburn. As the Ghost Horse begins to follow Georgie on the muster, the stallion is in extreme danger. Could the grey stallion be her old horse, Magic? How can she prove it before Goldburn captures him?

Review

Georgie is going back to stay at Stone Hill Station for the first time since her riding accident, where she lost the sight in one eye. She can’t wait to go back, but is afraid that she will not be able to ride like she used to.

Her dad gives her a new horse called Faith and wants her to go on a cattle muster with him and her brother, Finn. She quickly learns to love Faith and is soon enjoying riding again. She also loves the herd of wild brumbies that she sees around - especially the ghost horse stallion who leads them.

Goldburn is a rich local man who wants to capture the ghost horse for himself, but he is cruel and whips his horses, and Georgie is really worried that he will succeed. One night during the muster Georgie and the ghost horse come face to face. She recognises the markings on his face and they seem to share a strong connection.

Is it possible that the ghost horse could be her old horse Magic, who disappeared after her accident? If it is Magic then she definitely needs a plan to save him from Goldburn!

A great story about facing up to your fears and learning to trust your instincts. Georgie is a wonderful character who has a fantastic connection with all animals, but especially with horses. This is an adventure story that keeps moving as Georgie tries to find a way to save the ghost horse. With themes of family, friendship and nature, this is the perfect book for all horse lovers aged 11 and up.
