Dash is about to undertake a gap year with the Pop Up Rovers, a group of scientists who travel the country, taking science shows to schools. After always having issues making friends and not fitting in at high school, will this be Dash’s chance to make connections? Or will their forthright and scientific way of looking at life get in the way again?
Dash and the rest of the team, including the other new member, Kay (who is loud and likes to talk a lot), embark on their school visits and then undertake a road trip. Along the way, Dash faces many challenges, self doubt is always present, and being in strange places with unfamiliar people is way out of their comfort zone!
But as time passes, Dash and Kay learn to understand each other better, and maybe they can both learn valuable lessons from each other about friendship, life and what lays ahead as they embark on their own futures.
This is a great graphic novel that really is all about friendship and personal growth. There are mentions of alcohol abuse, depression and suicide, however they are not the main themes of the book. It is suitable for all teenagers, and those who love science will particularly enjoy it.
