In Marley's town, seniors are given a prank as a rite of passage...a dare, if you will. The dares start out simple...egging houses, balloons filled with glitter, chickens running loose in the halls.
But this is no child's play.
Accepting a dare means you could be expelled, arrested, or worse. No one wants to back down from a dare. But saying yes has consequences, too...
#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Preston is back with another pulse-pounding, twisty read!
Would you accept the dare?
Marley and her boyfriend, Atlas, and best friends, Luce and Jesse, are all in the last few weeks of high school and looking forward to going to College. They are definitely not looking forward to the seniors rite of passage - doing a dare.
The dares used to be fun but since the rich Wilder brothers started planning them, the dares have got very out of hand. Marley and her three friends are dared to drive at night with no lights on down a dangerous road through the forest. Jesse is driving and they set off through the first part fine, but then they hit something in the dark - which turns out to be the town recluse Arthur. They panic that this will derail all their college chances so the agree to cover up their crime and tell no one.
This sets in train the most stressful time of their lives. Does someone know what they did? Who is sending the cryptic messages to Marley? Can they hold themselves together and keep their secret safe?
This is a fantastic story with a great plot and a twist at the end I did not see coming. It’s a bit of a psychological thriller as it explores the friendship of the main characters, and how much stress and guilt affects your judgement. It also questions how well do you really know your friends… If you enjoyed One of Us is Lying then this is definitely the book for you. Best suited to ages 15 and above.
