Have you ever wanted to experience magic? Have you ever wanted to get away from everyone and everything? Do you enjoy baked goods?
Then come and stay at the Between-Worlds B&B!
Margo is bored. It’s the summer before she graduates and she has no idea where her life is going. When she gets locked out, and checks into a lovely B&B, Margo is greeted by surprisingly handsome receptionist, Finn. The rooms are cosy, there’s a grand library and a huge swimming pool, and the breakfast smells amazing.
But Margo soon suspects that it’s all too perfect, and that magic is in the air. She’s fairly sure that one of the other guests is a fairy princess, for one thing. Is this a B&B for magical beings? But Margo doesn’t have a magical bone in her body, so what is she doing there?
Margo locked herself out of the house, and her Mum is working night shift. She refuses to spend her only money - $24.50 - on a taxi across town to her Auntie’s place, but she just happens upon a charming little B&B advertising a room for exactly this amount.
She is met by the wonderful receptionist, Finn, and soon meets the other guests. But all is not as it seems, and it turns out that the B&B is a between-worlds location for magical creatures finding their way. There is a fairy princess, a ghost, and a stern fire-breathing creature, but Margo has no magic. What is she doing here? Luckily, time stops in the human world, so at least her Mum will not be distraught by her disappearance.
To leave Margo must learn something about herself, and it turns out that she not only helps the other residents find their way to move on, but she also discovers a family secret that her Mum has kept hidden from her. And falling for Finn was also definitely not part of the plan!
This is a cosy book, that will whisk you to a delightful magical world. All about finding your true identity, moving forward with life, family secrets and helping others, this is a lovely story that is perfect for lower secondary readers.
