A funny, moving middle-grade novel about change and friendship from the award-winning author of Meet Me at the Moon Tree.
When Sid sets off on her annual summer holiday to the Shipwreck Coast, she's desperate for some familiarity after a year of unwanted change. Two weeks with her best friend, Lou, is exactly what she needs. They can continue their search for the millions of dollars' worth of riches that disappeared in a tragic shipwreck over a hundred years ago.
But Lou has brought along her popular new school friend Hailey, who's more interested in boys than treasure hunting. So while Lou is busy chasing Hailey's approval, Sid is left scrambling to catch up, wondering when everything changed. Can Sid protect her heart from getting shipwrecked too?
Award-winning Australian author Shivaun Plozza has written another brilliant novel about growing up and confronting change.
Twelve-year-old Sid has always gone to the Penlee Point on the summer holidays for two weeks. It’s her chance to reconnect with her best friend, Lou, and maybe this time find the $19 million treasure that was lost with the sinking of the Penlee in 1879.
But this year is different. Her Dad and Mum are no longer together, and instead her Dad has been replaced with Mum’s new boyfriend, Tony, and his 15-year-old daughter, Eva. Tony tries too hard, and Eva doesn’t try at all! And to top it all off Lou has brought her new best friend, the cool and popular Hailey.
Sid really tries to make things work but the gulf opening up in her friendship with Lou just keeps getting bigger. Will she be able to rekindle their friendship? Will she develop any sort of a relationship with Tony or Eva? Or is change just inevitable? Will Penlee Point ever be the same again?
This is a terrific novel about growing up and facing some of the many changes that can happen in your life. With themes of separation and blended families, changing friendships, and eventually understanding that change is not always good or bad, this book is a fantastic read and will best suit those aged 10 to 14 years.
