Description

An all-new young adult series from Leia Stone. Perfect for fans of Vampire Academy, Buffy, and House of Night, this twisty, slow-burn supernatural romance will keep you guessing until the very last page.

They told me turning eighteen meant freedom. They never said it might kill me.

All I wanted was cake, candles, and a fresh start after aging out of the group home I've been stuck in for six years.

What I got instead? A vampire crashing my party and trying to drain me dry.

Apparently, vampires are real and I can sense them.

Right before I become dinner, a gorgeous, broody vampire hunter named Asher swoops in and saves me. He tells me I'm not just some orphan with a bad attitude… I'm a legacy. A born Vampire Hunter. And now I've got a full ride to Nightguard Academy, a secret school for hunters.

Training to kill the undead? Kinda savage.

Except there's one problem: I'm hiding a secret so dark it could get me staked before graduation. And in a school full of monsters, secrets don't stay buried for long.

Review

Stella has never known her parents and has grown up in foster and group homes. Now she is eighteen and it’s time to stand on her own.

Her friends have arranged a birthday party at a local club, but then vampires arrive and it seems she is the only one who can see them! Well, except for the hunters who arrive to kill the vampires. One particularly gorgeous hunter named Asher saves her and tells her that if she can see vampires then she must be a legacy, someone who was born as a vampire hunter.

Leaving her friends behind, Stella is whisked away to the Nightguard Academy so she can learn to be a hunter too. Stella quickly finds new friends, but she doesn’t trust anyone easily. And when she finds a letter left by her mum it hides a dark secret...

Will she survive long enough to find out what happened to her mum? And will her friends be able to trust her?

This is a great supernatural vampire story. Stella is a complicated but very likeable character. She loves her new friends Harper and Luna, but her past makes her certain that something will go wrong and her new found purpose will be taken from her. Her relationship with Asher, the hunter who saved her, is woven through the book and is a simmering love story, and there are some enthralling fight scenes between the hunters and the vampires. This is the first in a new series and I will be eagerly awaiting Book Two.

Perfect for those who enjoy a supernatural tale of good versus evil, this is best suited to those aged 15 and up.
