Description

The OG enemies-to-lovers story gets the R.A. Spratt treatment!

Selby does not want to be in the school play. She is much happier behind the scenes painting sets - anything to avoid standing on stage in front of an audience, performing for disinterested classmates and overenthusiastic parents.

So Selby did not plan on landing the lead role of Juliet . . . and she certainly never planned to land in Verona and meet Juliet in person.

With chaos, wit and R.A. Spratt wisdom, if those who rush stumble and fall, Romeo and Juliet are about to crash-land into a modern-day town!

With warmth, brilliant banter, deadpan humour and, well, dead people, R.A. Spratt brings her trademark wit to Shakespeare's famous play.

Review

Another tremendous modern take on a Shakespearean classic from R.A. Spratt.

Selby returns to the world of Shakespeare. This time, her class is putting on a play of Romeo and Juliet. She has been able to avoid the spotlight, and has been given the job of working on the set and being Juliet’s understudy. What could go wrong?

A spinal injury to the star with one day until the opening show, and suddenly Selby is now Juliet. She calls in the help of her ex-tutor Dan, and he immediately has Selby immersed in the show.... So much so that they are again transported through time to the actual town of Verona to witness the classic tragic love story firsthand. Brutality, infatuation, arranged marriages, feuding families, Selby has to intervene in all this nonsense. But how much should she try to change? And how much danger are they in?

This is a wonderful look at the Romeo and Juliet story, its setting and the problems faced at the time. It helps to explain the reasoning behind why Shakespeare put certain things into his stories, giving them a modern context. R.A. Spratt, with her love of all things Shakespeare and typical wit really explores the stories, the background, and makes these classics so much more accessible for young teenage readers aged from 12 to 15 years.
