Review

Ugly and Eric are a magical combination, and Elizabeth Fensham certainly doesn't disappoint with this new instalment of their adventures. Although reference is made to their previous experiences, this is certainly a stand-alone story.

Ugly has taken to being a companion dog at school for those students struggling with certain things in their life. Eric is so proud of him, and of his Grandad who brings him to school.

But Eric is worried about Ugly. Is he doing too much? He is also concerned and fed up with his moody and sad sister Gretchen. Can Eric come up with a plan to make them both happy again?

This really is a delightful story about having compassion for others and putting plans in place to actually try and help them. It is also a story of family relationships, friendship and overcoming the challenges life throws at you. Eric will win your heart with his determination and attitude, as will his ‘beautiful’ dog, Ugly.

Readers aged 8 and up will love this story.
