Meet accidental time traveller Lily Tripp as she bounces throughout history navigating friendship dramas, first love and family. It's LOTTIE BROOKS meets BACK TO THE FUTURE!?
Every New Year's Day, Lily Tripp time travels and wakes up in a new century. She's lived in Roman times and the Victorian era and never knows where she'll end up next. Thank goodness her bestie, family and secret crush all time travel with her too . . . even if they don't know it?
But how will she live in a time before chicken nuggets were invented? Why are her brother's clothes so ridiculous in every era? And how on earth can she cope with being mean girl Georgia's servant?!
Lily is used to waking up to a different time period on new years day. In her thirteen years the first eight were normal and sequential, but in 2022 she woke up instead in 1842, then in roman times in the year 122, then she moved to 1922. Now, she is back in 2025 and hopes to stay there. Her family and friends all move with her, but she is the only one who knows that her timeline has changed!
This causes so many difficulties for Lily as she has to learn the fashions and customs of the day without seeming like a freak - something that her enemy, Georgia, seems to come to conclude no matter what year they are living in! Luckily, she always has her best friend, Poppy, and the dream of taking her friendship with Ollie up a level.
This time they travel to 1621 and suddenly Lily is Georgia’s maid. She has to sleep at the foot of Georgia’s bed, and be at her beck and call. She decided to get some revenge on Georgia, until Georgia suspects that Lily is a witch. This is not so bad until Lily discovers that witchery carries a death sentence in 1621!
Fortunately, time travel intercedes and she is suddenly moved to 1972. Bands, big hair, and flared pants are all the rage and Lily is having trouble learning the popular things. Even worse, Georgia and Poppy are best friends, and Lily has no one. Will her life ever be normal? Will she ever kiss Ollie? And can she ever get her friendship with Poppy back? And who knows what year she will land in next?!
This is an easy-to-read novel that gives a little taste of history across vastly different eras. It also covers topics like young love, friendship, bullying and trying too hard to fit in with the crowd. It is a perfect read for younger secondary students, as well as those in upper primary.
