Eden manages to get a job in the government’s Archives, taking the place of one of Kore’s victims, but Izrod keeps snatching more government employees. Is Eden safe? And what is Kore planning? Will it mean the end to peace in Sendirian City?
Eden and her family live in the poor sector of Sendirian City, and when a fire burns down their apartment block they are forced to live a rundown shack.
Her dad is a drunk who abuses the family, and Eden gets a job in the government sector as a junior keeper in the archives department to try and help her mum with extra income.
Her new job means she must move into a government unit close to her work, which should keep her safe from the madman who is terrorizing the city. Kore is having people kidnapped by Izrod, who is amazingly strong, and then doing experiments on them - but no one knows what he is planning. When Eden is kidnapped by Izrod and injected with one of Kore’s drugs she is sure she will die, until she is mysteriously helped into escaping by Izrod himself.
He introduces her to the underground network that is trying to stop Kore and help the city's poor and forgotten people, and she quickly finds herself helping them in any way she can. Will they be able to find out what Kore is planning before it’s too late?
This a fast-paced story with great characters that will keep you enthralled until the last page. It has strong themes of social justice with the underground network. Eden’s character grows as she realises that how her father behaves when he is drunk doesn’t need to define her, and Izrod realises that he too can overcome the hardships he has faced. It also has a theme of family with her mother and younger brother and sister central to all she does. Best suited to 14 years and up.
