Wonderful Australian author and illustrator, Gus Gordon, has delivered a thoughtful look at the meaning of life that will both entertain and elicit ideas from lower secondary readers.
Friends Luis, the large furry one, and Pablo, the small furry one, live a peaceful life in the woods. Always wondering what the big city life might hold for them, but being a little bit scared to leave their world, they finally embark on a journey to see a theatre show.
Things never turn out as planned for them, but they see enough to know that their world suits them just fine.
Filled with humour and sarcasm, this adventure touches on the big questions like what is the meaning of life? Is there more out there than what we might see in our little corner of the world?
I found it to be an easy to read, humorous tale that can certainly be read with two levels of meaning. The story is suitable for primary readers, but it brings a level of wit and sarcasm, as well as tackling life’s deeper questions, that give it another level of meaning (and humour) for older readers, including those all the way through to adulthood.
