Danny Crane and his mom moved from New York City to Pearl City, Hawaii two months ago. Every day since, Danny has been making a plan to get back to NYC. He's not afraid of the crime or dark alleys there. And he's not afraid to stow away on the next ship out of Pearl Harbor.

But that morning, the skies fill with fighter planes. Bombs pound the harbor. Bullets rain down on the beaches. Danny is shocked — and, for the first time, truly afraid. He's a tough city kid. But can Danny survive the day that will live in infamy?

Review

Danny and his mom live in New York, but he has started hanging with the wrong crowd, so his mom decides that they need a change of scenery. They move to Hawaii, and she gets a job as a nurse at the hospital.

Danny misses New York and his friends there, and starts plotting to secretly move back. But then the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, and Danny is shocked.

But when the people all come together to look after their beautiful part of the world, Danny realises that maybe this is really the right place for him...

This is a tremendous retelling, exploring the impact of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 on those that lived there, that led to the American involvement in the Second World War. It is wonderfully presented with great artwork that makes this story even more enthralling in graphic novel format. Perfect for readers aged from 11 to 15 years.
