Thirteen-year-old Hayden's parents have just ruined his life. They've signed him up for singing lessons, which is the most embarrassing thing a guy at his school can do.
To his surprise, Hayden finds that he enjoys singing and talking to the other students in the singing class. Will he make a friend?
But two bullies threaten to livestream his singing if he performs at the end-of-year recital. Is it social suicide or the best thing ever? Will Hayden learn to be comfortable in his own skin?
Hayden doesn’t really have any friends, and his parents are worried about him. They decide to enrol him in singing lessons with Mrs Williams - like that is going to help him make friends!
It turns out that Mrs Williams is a great teacher, and Hayden actually loves singing and has a wonderful voice. But he only likes singing with his teacher or by himself - and definitely not in public. So he surprises himself when he offers to sing with Amy and Sophie at the upcoming recital. What on earth has come over him?
When two of the boys in his class threaten to film the recital and put it on social media he really freaks out. Will Hayden keep his promise and sing, or will he give in to their bullying?
This is a great story about finding your voice, in Hayden’s case quite literally, but it’s also about having a go and learning to be comfortable in your own skin with what you are good at.
It has themes of friendship and learning what it means to be a friend, as well as family ties.
It will be thoroughly enjoyed by all those Year 7 and up who love relatable characters, real life settings and a great story.
