Musical lover Riley has big aspirations to become a director on Broadway. Crucial to this plan is to bring back her high school's spring musical, but when Riley takes her mom's car without permission, she's grounded and stuck with the worst punishment - spending her after-school hours working at her dad's game shop.
Riley can't waste her time working when she has a musical to save, so she convinces Nathan - a nerdy teen employee -to cover her shifts and, in exchange, she'll flirt with him to make his gamer-girl crush jealous.
But Riley didn't realize that meant joining Nathan's Dungeons & Dragons game...or that role playing would be so fun. Soon, Riley starts to think that flirting with Nathan doesn't require as much acting as she would've thought...

Riley loves musicals, and the school musical is the highlight of every year. So when she finds out that the school has decided to cancel the musical, she is determined to make sure that it goes ahead.
The main problem with this plan is that her parents have grounded her for 8 weeks for taking her mum's car without asking and without having a licence! Her punishment is working in her dad's gaming store after school every day, as her parents don’t trust her to stay at home.
But saving the musical will take lots of work, so Riley convinces Nathan, who works with her to at the gaming store, to cover for her. In return, she will flirt with him to make Sophia, his crush, jealous. To do this convincingly Riley will have to join their Dungeons and Dragons game. She is certain that she is going to hate it, but much to her surprise she loves the acting and role playing involved.
She also realises that she and Nathan have lots in common. And pretending that she has no feelings for him is getting harder and harder. Is he still acting or does he feel something too?
This is a fun, easy to read romance novel that I really enjoyed. It has lots of quirky characters and a story with enough twists to keep you interested to the end.
It will be thoroughly enjoyed by readers in middle secondary and above.
