Review

Alex's mum is very overprotective - she has so many rules, and it’s only become worse since Alex's dad died. Alex finds comfort in the forest, where she spent so much time with her dad. So when her mum bans her from the forest she screams in frustration - and flames pour from her mouth! And this is how Alex discovers she is a dragon in human form...

Alex is found by Oliphos, one of the oldest dragons, and he takes her to the dragon's island of Skralla - where she will learn how to transform and survive as a dragon along with lots of other dragon children. Alex is really struggling to transform from human to dragon, and although her friends try to help her it is Erik, a servant, who tells her to use her brains and think of other ways to fight that inspires her.

Strange things keep happening and rumours of the return of Drak Midna, an evil dragon who wants to wipe out humankind, are getting stronger. Will Alex and her friends be able to avoid the fighting? Or will they need to help to save the world?

This is a fast-paced fantasy story, with lots of plot twists. It has themes of family, grief and parental loss, friendship and courage. I really enjoyed it and will be looking forward to Book 2. This will be loved by those 12 and up, especially those who enjoy fantasy.
