Review

Mira’s island, and the islands around it, are dangerous places. Not only because of the ocean that surrounds them, but because of the way of life that they live, and those that control them...

Mira is a wrecker. One of seven who lure boats to their dangerous shoreline, with the sole intention of retrieving their cargo. Although dangerous and illegal, it is their only way to survive. Mira feels completely at home in the water, just like her mother did before she died. Her father says she has the song of the sea, just like her mother, but she doesn’t really know what that means. But she is about to find out!

When The Watch take her father and their leader Bryn, Mira sets out on a journey to not only find out her mother’s secret, but also to rescue her father and Bryn.

But this journey will mean trusting Seth, a survivor of the one of the wrecks, that Mira is irresistibly drawn to. But who really is he, and are what are his real intentions?

All Mira wants is to understand her mother and to save Bryn and her father, but instead she finds herself caught up in a dangerous world of power, magic and ruthless smugglers. What Mira discovers about her mother, and in turn about herself, will result in Mira becoming a very valuable asset, meaning that those in power will go to any and all lengths to get to her...

But it is not only Seth that she maybe can’t trust. There is another, mysterious magical boy who keeps appearing, and Mira finds herself caught up in the fight of her life to try and save herself, and those that she loves.

This is a wonderful fantasy novel, that is full of secrets, magic, trust, romance and betrayal. Given the nature of the relationship that develops between Mira and Seth, and that it does contain sexual references, this will be best suited to readers aged 15 and above.
