A funny story about kids fixing things.
CHILDISH
Me and Dot reckon it's just a word for being a child.
And having a crack at solving a big problem using only a really good friendship and the world's best dumplings and a thousand kilos of plasticine.
Like we're doing now.
Arkie’s family are selling the farm and so he is sent to stay with Nan in the city, until Dad and Mum can sell it and join him.
The city is so different to the satellite schooling that he is used to out in the bush, and he instantly befriends Dot, whose family run an amazing Asian restaurant. So when Dot is badly hurt hitting a pothole while doing a delivery on her bike, Arkie decides that something needs to be done about all of their local potholes.
But you just try getting the local council and various utility companies to work together to get it done! Arkie and Dot are not put off, but can they succeed?
Filled with childish optimism and tenacity, this book fills you with hope that sometimes we can get the community working together for a good cause. Readers will love Arkie’s constant belief in his ability to make change happen. This is a wonderful novel that is full of meaningful issues, and I highly recommend it to all readers aged from 9 to 13 years.
