Estela Bralaga travels the world with her mum and dad, but when she is the only survivor of a mysterious attack on the subway she is left all alone. Her aunt, that she doesn’t really know, asks her to come and live with her in Spain at the family castle called La Sombra.
The house is dark and gothic and hides many family secrets. Her aunt forbids her from entering many parts of the castle as it is too dangerous, but Estala explores anyway and is confronted by a vampire called Sebastian. Estela is is the only one who can see him and she can only see him at night. She is sure she must be hallucinating, but soon realises that he is real and is confined to the castle’s interior.
Estela desperately wants to find out why her parents died, and Sebastian wants to know why he is locked in the castle. Deciding the best way to find answers is to work together, they soon suspect that somehow they are bound by an unknown force that connects them. Can they find the answers? Or do their feelings mean they can’t trust each other?
This is a dark, mysterious gothic romance that fantasy lovers will enjoy. Estela is feisty, brave and stubborn and must try to solve the riddle of her family’s creepy inheritance. It is full of twists and turns and has many dark surprises littered through the book to keep you in suspense until the end.
