Being chosen for the Sensational Sports Superstars of the Future Sports Camp is meant to be an honour, but for ten-year-old Isla it’s the last place she wants to be. Her parents are famous sports heroes, but she has another secret passion. When she meets Archie, a rural kid with tons of swimming talent, the pair team up to solve a perplexing camp mystery that involves disappearing devices, a strange buzzing noise at night and kids acting like zombies. Together, they’ll uncover an alien invasion, foil a secret government agency, and have the courage to go after their dreams.
This story is set at the Sensational Sport Superstars of the Future Sports Camp, and told through the eyes of Isla and Archie.
Isla is the daughter of two of Australia’s greatest ever Olympic swimmers, so she must share their sporting passion, right? Wrong! She loves music and playing the flute, so this camp with future netball stars is really a drag for her. But meeting Archie, who dreams of doing well this week and receiving an everything-paid-for swimming scholarship, makes Isla’s week a little better.
But then our duo uncover strange events happening all around them, and trace it back to an alien ant-like group whose spacecraft has crashed to earth.
At first they are terribly afraid but they soon realise that they are the only hope of helping the aliens repair their ship and return to outer space. Can they succeed before the secret government agents arrive and capture the aliens to take them away for testing?
This is an extremely amusing and easy to read story that has great underlying messages about following your dreams, helping others, teamwork and friendship. This is a funny and enjoyable book for middle primary readers.
