Review

When Ryel and his Dad move into the three bedroom home of his Dad's girlfriend, Lonnie, and her twin boys, who are in Ryel’s grade at school, there are bound to be some teething issues.

The big problem of who would have their own room was fixed when the boys all went in together, leaving a spare play room. Well, it was fixed until Ryel can’t sleep because Darcy sleep talks and yells, and Harry wheezes all night!

So with the school’s annual sockey (a mix of hockey and soccer) tournament coming up, the boys decide that the highest placed boy will get a room of his own. But with so many things going wrong, surely sleep deprived Ryel will never get his dream. Or will he?

This is a great contemporary look at the challenges of blended families that is told in a fun way. With themes of coping with change, competition, compromise and family dynamics, this is an ideal novel for ten to twelve-year-old readers.
